Enema

An enema purpose is to clean the bowel. It is safe and effective. Although it sounds scary, an enema does not hurt when it is administered properly.

Equipments
1.    You can easily purchase and enema bag or can online or at a pharmacy. Then you need a fountain syringe that helps by preventing the bag or can to spill. Next you need a stainless steel irrigation which you can purchase from surgical stores.
2.    A davol rubber tube is a rubber tube around 18 to 30 inches long that attached to the enema tip. It is to provide comfort when an enema is performed.
3.    Castille enema soap is a cleansing soap for enema cleansing. It is mild and can be use on infants. The soap can be purchase from pharmacy or drug stores.
4.    Vaseline, petroleum jelly, K-Y Jelly are a must to work as a lubricant. It helps for easier insertion of the rectal tube.
5.    A bah towel is needed to be placed under the buttocks during enema to help absorb leakage.

Procedure.
1. To perform a DIY enema, one should have an area set up for it. Place the bath towel on the place where you will be lying on. Prepare the solution’s temperature. The ideal temperature is around 105 Fahrenheit.
2. For soapsuds enema, empty the castile soap into the enema bag or can and fill it with water. For disposable enema, fill the bag with 1/3 of water and pour the castile soap in. Continue filling the bag until it is full.Once it is full, shake it well.

Salt solution enema
- mix 1 teaspoon of salt for each pint of the solution.
Tap water enema
- Fill the bag with warm water and distilled water is preferred.

Lubricate the rectal node and anal area with the petroleum jelly.

Hang the enema bag on a steady hook.

Lie down, Place your left arm behind your back, controlling the shutoff and your right arm rested under your pillow.

Insert the rectal tube gently into the rectum twisting the tube back and forth for easier insertion.

Open the shutoff valve and let the solution flow. Pause if there’s discomfort and then continue the enema. Breath calmly in slow deep breaths and do the enema at your own pace without rushing.

Until the enema bag is empty, clamp the shutoff valve and remove the rectal tube. Retained the position and solution for a short momentbefore going to the toilet to release the enema.
Take a rest by lying down after the evacuation. For soapsuds enema, it is advised to go for a water rinse to remove the enema entirely to prevent irritation.

Clean the equipments entirely and thoroughly and hang it to dry for several days.

Minimizing discomfort tips.

1.    Many thought that sitting upon the toilet is most effective way of taking an enema. It is not the only option and may not give the best results due to the solution not reaching to the upper parts of the colon.
2.    Temperature must be adjusted correctly. For example, a solution too cool will cause cramps.
3.    Too much pressure by suspending the enema bag too high can create discomfort. The objective is to get the solution in, so there should be no worry how long the procedure takes as rushing to do the procedure is not encourage.
